Germany is planning a new deportation center at BER airport. This Thursday, these plans will be discussed in Brandenburg parliament in Potsdam. The alliance “Abschiebezentrum BER verhindern” calls to gather at the parliament building during their session and raise our voice: Stop the construction of this deportation center!
The new center will expand deportation detention from the current 20 places to a capacity to detain 120 people. Besides a new detention building, the 4-hectares large center will attempt to centralise both arrival and deportation with offices for the BAMF, Ausländerbehörde, police, as well as an asylum court and a building where deportations are organised, all in one fenced-off area. The deportation center is planned to be ready in 2025.
The construction is planned at BER airport, terminal 5 in Schönefeld, right next to the current detention building at Willy-Brandt-Straße 15. Terminal 5 is currently being used for charter-deportations: there have been 47 mass-deportation charterflights counted in 2021 from BER airport, making Schönefeld a rising hotspot for this racist and neo-colonial violence.
We demand:
An immediate halt of planning this deportation center!
